Executive Summary

Together with our partners at Airnauts, we were brought in to digitize an industry that had never had a proper digital home. The outdoor guiding world, covering everything from fly fishing in the Florida Keys to heli-skiing in Utah and elk hunting in Wyoming, ran almost entirely on word of mouth and direct phone calls. Guides had no way to list their experiences online. Adventure seekers had no way to search, compare, or book them. We took the project from concept to MVP in four months, delivering a branded web platform, mobile app, booking engine, and SEO infrastructure that brought 1,500 guides and 4,000+ trips onto a single searchable system.

Digital Bunch Solution

Together with Airnauts, we designed and developed the platform end-to-end: brand identity, website, mobile app, booking engine, guide admin tools, and a Strapi-based backend extended into a dynamic location-driven SEO platform. Elastic Search powers the core discovery experience, enabling precision queries by activity type combined with real-time geolocation matching.

The platform needed to serve two distinct users equally: guests seeking guided outdoor adventures and guides managing their own bookings.

Experience-based industries are slow to digitize. The competitive edge goes to those who solve discovery and trust, as guests book what they find, and guides grow what they manage.

Understanding what really mattered for this Outdoor Adventure Platform

Booking a guided outdoor experience differs from booking a hotel. Guests venture into remote areas with a guide whose expertise is crucial. Trust is hard to convey online, and logistics are complex: weather, group sizes, equipment, skill levels, and availability in low-connectivity areas. The industry lacked a platform for this complexity.

Challenge

Guests had no way to search, compare, or book guided outdoor experiences online. Without a centralized platform, there was no pricing visibility, no payment security, and no standardized way to evaluate guides. Guides, meanwhile, had no tools to manage availability or receive booking requests at scale, which kept many off digital platforms entirely.

Solution

We built a dual-sided platform from the ground up. For guests: an Elastic Search-powered discovery system filtering by activity type and date, with geolocation mapping and a three-step online booking flow backed by weather-protection guarantees and secure payment. For guides: a dedicated account panel with a custom calendar and booking approval queue, with push notifications eliminating the manual back-office coordination that made digital participation impractical.

How We Transform Ideas Into Seamless Experiences

Outguided - how we 1/5

We began by mapping the outdoor guiding industry to understand where booking friction lived and who stood to gain most from a digital solution. By analyzing how guests discovered experiences and how guides managed their time, we identified the gaps the platform needed to fill. That research grounded the platform's direction and ensured the branding resonated with the spirit of adventure and discovery at its core.

The Business Impact: A Marketplace Built from Nothing

The platform launched with 1,500 guides and 4,000+ trips listed. Guests can search, filter, and book entirely online, removing the phone-tag friction that previously blocked conversion. Guides receive booking requests for approval passively, recovering time previously spent on manual scheduling.

The SEO infrastructure extended the impact beyond the platform itself. By generating dynamic, location-based pages automatically, every new guide and trip listed increased the platform's search footprint without additional development work.

Success Factors

Our goal was to build a platform where neither side of the marketplace had to compromise to use it.

Advanced Search Architecture

Elastic Search integration enabled complex, low-latency queries combining activity type, date, guest count, and geolocation. The "search as I move the map" functionality brought a level of discovery precision the outdoor guiding industry had no precedent for.

Mobile-First Booking Engine

Guests primarily access services on their phones, and guides operate in areas with limited connectivity. We built the mobile app to carry the full feature set of the web platform while staying lightweight enough to perform reliably in the field.

Calendar and Admin Panel

We built a custom calendar and booking tool designed to streamline scheduling and reservations. It features real-time availability updates and automated reminders, giving guides a reliable system for managing bookings without manual coordination.

Search Engine Optimization Infrastructure

We extended Strapi's CMS with custom plugins to generate dynamic, location-based pages automatically. Every guide and trip added to the platform increases its search footprint without additional development work, making the product itself a compounding SEO asset.

Why Did This Transformation Succeed

This project succeeded because we approached it as a full platform build, covering strategy, brand, UX/UI, mobile development, and SEO under one roof. That ownership meant every layer of the product stayed consistent and aligned with the platform's mission. Equally important was our focus on the two-sided nature of the marketplace.

By understanding what guests needed to find and book an experience, and what guides needed to manage their business, we were able to build flows that served both without compromise.

Project Outcome

The outdoor guiding profession was always built on expertise and passion. The demand from adventure seekers was always there. What changed was giving both sides a platform that worked: turning a fragmented, phone-dependent industry into a searchable, bookable marketplace that connects professional guides with guests worldwide.

Looking Forward: Expanding the Marketplace

The Elastic Search engine and dynamic SEO infrastructure were built to scale without architectural rework. As the platform adds guides and trip inventory, its discoverability grows in proportion.
