How does SEO work?

SEO aims at improving a website's relevance, accessibility, authority, and user experience. What are different SEO types?

The three core SEO types are:

  • Technical SEO: Improving technical features of a website or in other words its architecture (URL structure, navigation, internal linking…). Technical optimization also involves such areas as structured data, web hosting services, CMS or site security.

  • On-site SEO: Improving the website’s content for users and search engines. This involves for example: covering tan opics you are expert in, containing accurate information, multimedia but also enhancing title tags, meta descriptions or open graph)

  • Off-site SEO: Link building (acquiring links from other websites to your own) is the activity most associated with this type of SEO. It acts as a vote of confidence and indicates to search engines that other websites consider your content to be relevant and valuable.

Why is it important?

SEO is important because it helps businesses and organizations reach their target audience and establish a strong online presence. Unlike social media posts, traffic from SEO is sustainable and doesn’t end when a paid campaign does. With billions of searches conducted on search engines every day, SEO provides a cost-effective way to attract more organic traffic to a website, improve its credibility, and ultimately drive more sales and conversions. By investing in SEO, businesses can establish themselves as industry leaders.

Developing SEO skills

The expectations and preferences of searchers are constantly evolving, and so do the algorithms in order to keep up. One of the best ways to improve your skills and deepen your SEO knowledge, is to experiment, try out various tactics and techniques. Otherwise, a great idea to enhance your career is to attend search conferences, webinars, various courses or listen to podcasts. Nevertheless, keep in mind that while there are many reliable resources, you surely will discover some outdated or wrong SEO information.
